Ruby Barker, recognized for her role as Marina in the hit series The Bridgerton Chronicles, recently took to her Instagram to share a deeply personal and painful experience with her followers. In a lengthy note, she detailed the trauma of an abusive relationship she endured, leading to her hospitalization in late 2023.
In her candid revelation, Barker opened up about meeting a man after her father died in January 2023, describing how their relationship quickly became tumultuous. What started as him staying over to help her clean up after a party quickly became volatile, she claims. Barker shared his ordeal, citing the complicity of the man's family in enabling his harmful behavior.
“I know I joke a lot, but it wasn't funny and it ended up almost killing me,” she wrote, adding, “I was so confused and ultimately all I wanted was… was for my father to come back.”
Although she did not reveal the identity of the attacker, Barker revealed that she sought help, contacting helplines like the Samaritans and the police. Despite efforts and advice from organizations like Refuge to recognize the cycle of abuse, she chose not to file a formal complaint.
“I would spend nights on the phone with the Samaritans and the police would call me and come to my house to see if I was okay. I didn't want to press charges. Refuge helped me understand what the cycle of abuse was and what it meant.” It seems. He knows. I know. Now you know it too,” she wrote.
