Gypsy Rose BlanchardLast month's release from prison and the new Lifetime docuseries this month have created a lot of buzz. And now her childhood home is getting the same attention, but not everyone is happy about it.
TMZ reported Saturday morning that the Springfield, Missouri, home where Blanchard's mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, was killed in 2015, attracts a ton of tourists and even ghost hunters. The outlet spoke with neighbors who said they noticed a lot of activity from many cars with out-of-state license plates stopping to take photos.
But get this: The house has since been painted from pink to blue, and tourists have had a hard time locating it. TMZ reports that a horde of tourists have asked neighbors to help them locate the house, which no longer has the famous wheelchair ramp built to help Blanchard when her mother relegated her to a wheelchair.
One of the neighbors said they refused to help tourists locate the house out of respect for the house's new occupants. Another neighbor said he had become frustrated with all the traffic backing up on his street, and a third neighbor wished the house would be torn down after the murder of Dee Dee, carried out by Blanchard's boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn . He is currently serving a life sentence after being convicted of first-degree murder.
The neighbors' frustration, however, reached its peak when ghost hunters arrived on the scene. A TikTok video uploaded two days after Christmas shows two women searching for paranormal activity. While some have commented on the TikTok video saying they can understand that the house is likely surrounded by dark energy, others are uncomfortable with the idea, to say the least.
“This is really rude and disrespectful not only to the Gypsies but also to the new owners of the house,” one person commented. Another added: “No one asked for this, you are exploiting a situation you had nothing to do with, take your ghost hunting and stay home.”
After concocting a plan with Godejohn to kill his mother after years of abuse from Munchausen by proxy (a rare disorder in which a guardian exaggerates or induces illness in a child to gain attention and sympathy), Blanchard was Released from prison last month after serving 85 percent of his 10-year prison sentence. She pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2016.
After his release, Blanchard's face has been everywhere. And last week, Blanchard promoted her new Lifetime documentary series, The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. Speaking exclusively to ET, Blanchard spoke about his newfound fame since his release from prison.
“I don’t even understand it at this point because to me, I’m just another face in the crowd,” said Blanchard, who has amassed more than 13 million followers on social media. “So when I got out of prison, I didn't expect this giant wave of social media, you know? I'm posting selfies like the next person would or like the next person wouldn't think about it. And before (you know it), it has 2 million views. I'm just like, 'OK?!'”
Blanchard, who is now married to Ryan Anderson, also admitted that more than 250 men from all over the world contacted her about dating while she was behind bars. But it was Anderson who stood out.
“Well, Ryan is from Louisiana, and I'm from Louisiana. (When) I saw that, I was like, 'Hey, someone from my home state,' so I wrote him back.” she told ET. “We became friends and, of course, more than friends and now we are married.”
