As the 2024 Golden Globe Awards approach, the struggling institution is trying to bring its new branding full circle.
After a 2021 LA Times investigation revealed that the awards' parent organization, the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn., suffered from a lack of diversity and engaged in questionable ethical and financial practices, the group was disbanded and the show was purchased by the company private equity firm from billionaire Todd Boehly and Penske Media, publisher of Variety and the Hollywood Reporter.
Now, after a radical overhaul focused on diversifying the voting pool, growing audiences and reaping profits, Globes organizers say the party is on.
What time is the show? How can I watch it?
The 81st Golden Globe Awards – the kickoff event for the 2024 awards season – will air on January 7 at 5 p.m. PT on CBS and stream on Paramount+, with different terms for different subscriber levels. Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers in the US can watch the show live and on demand, while Paramount+ Essential subscribers can watch it on demand the day after the special airs in the US only. The show will be broadcast from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Who hosts?
The ceremony will be hosted by stand-up Jo Koy, who seems more inclined to have fun than previous years' hosts, Ricky Gervais and Jerrod Carmichael, whose jokes were a little too deep for the awards' tastes.
“A lot of (Koy's) comedies are family-based, so I don't know if they'll be as mean-spirited as you hope,” said Ricky Kirshner, the show's executive producer. told the Times.
Koy has released five highly rated stand-up specials on Comedy Central and Netflix, appearing in the Netflix special for Improv's 60th anniversary and recently concluded his Funny is Funny world tour.
And he intends to deliver on his promises at what has long been billed as “the Hollywood party of the year.”
“As a kid, I watch TV and I don't have a lot of role models to indirectly inspire me, that's what it means to me,” the Filipino American actor said. told the Associated Press. Koy is the second Asian host in Globes history, following Sandra Oh in 2019.
“It’s a beautiful moment. I really want to make sure I knock this out of the park,” he said.
