Opening of a bowling, arcade and laser game center in Killeen
A new entertainment center recently opened at 901 S. Fort Hood St. in Killeen, featuring bowling, laser tag, arcade and more.
Area 254 General Manager Corey Calvert on Monday highlighted the laser tag area, which spans two floors, the skating rink — which had several people using it at the time — and a karaoke room with a wide range of songs to choose from.
The bowling area has 60 feet of televisions above the lanes.
There is also a self-serve beer station with dozens of beers on tap.
Heights Files Response to Ground Game's Prop A Lawsuit
The city of Harker Heights has filed a legal response to a lawsuit filed by Ground Game Texas over the city's refusal to codify a voter-approved marijuana decriminalization ordinance.
The city's 12-page response was filed Dec. 27 in the 146th District Court in Belton.
The case is expected to be heard early next month.
Ground Game Texas, an Austin-based progressive organization, successfully launched a petition to put the ordinance, known as Proposition A, on the city's November 2022 election ballot.
In last week's court filing, the city — in a document submitted by City Attorney Charles D. Olson — argued, among other things, that the defendants are shielded from prosecution and liability because of their government immunity.
Killeen Police: Accused Christmas Day shooter thought security was 'on'
A Killeen man accused of fatally shooting a teenager on Christmas Day did so when he believed his firearm's safety was on, according to a statement given to police.
Killeen police, in an arrest affidavit, said Jeremiah Matthews, 20, admitted to handling a firearm and pointing it at the victim, 17-year-old Roccordo Davis. Police say Matthews said he pulled the trigger thinking the safety was on, but it wasn't.
Police say Matthews and Davis were brothers.
Jury could decide Killeen election fraud case later this year
A jury could decide this year whether a former municipal elections judge voted illegally multiple times in Killeen's 2019 municipal election.
Now 81, Klaus Michael Adam was 76 when he reportedly voted in three different districts in Killeen, including the one in which he lived.
Adam was indicted on June 26, 2019, on a state prison felony charge of criminal attempt to vote illegally.
The State alleges that during a municipal election in Killeen on May 4, 2019, Adam voted illegally by voting for candidates in Districts 3 and 4, where he did not reside and was not eligible to vote. Adam also voted in the District 2 election, where he resides, according to the indictment.
A new trial date has been set in the 264th Judicial District Court for May 6.
Autistic child saw mother shot by KPD and handcuffed for hours, family says
A non-verbal autistic child was handcuffed for hours in a police cruiser while getting wet after watching a Killeen police officer shoot his mother in the face last week, according to the boy's family.
They also said Michele Ero, the 12-year-old boy's mother, was going through a mental health crisis at the time, having just been forced to leave her home.
Michele Ero, 44, was charged with aggravated assault on a public servant. Police said she lunged at an officer with a knife at a vacant building in the 800 block of Adela Street.
The family said she was shot in the face by a police officer. They don't believe she had a knife.
