Stéphane Colbert spent the night later than usual, staying up for a concert after President Joe Biden's State of the Union address.
On Thursday's live episode of “Late at night“, Colbert began, joking about Biden's entrance as Democrats chanted “four more years.” The comedian joked that four more years is how long it took the president to make his entrance.
As he arrived at the podium, Biden referenced Franklin D. Roosevelt's 1941 SOTU speech, during which Colbert joked that the 81-year-old president had seen it live.
The “Late Night” host turned up the heat by skewering the “thirsty” audience with Biden's speech.
“Thanks to the rules giving access to former members of Congress, George Santos attended the State of the Union,” he said of the former New York representative who was expelled from the House last year.
“Come on! You can't go back to your old job like you never left it. Unless you're Jon Stewart. Keep it up, Jon. You're crushing it,” he added, Referring to Stewart's temporary return to the 'Daily Show'” after a nine-year hiatus.
Colbert then took aim at House Speaker Mike Johnson, joking about his closeness to Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Because he was standing so close to a woman, his son got an alert on his phone,” the comedian joked, referencing Johnson's 2022 confession during a discussion at the Baptist church from Cypress, Louisiana, where he revealed that he had a application that alerts his son when he watches inappropriate content and vice versa.
At the time, Johnson said he was alerted to “questionable” content seen by his son, but it was simply “two middle-aged teachers” talking.

Colbert also noted who didn't attend Biden's SOTU.
“Before the President arrived, members of the Supreme Court showed up. Interestingly, Justice Clarence Thomas was not present. It's nice to know he's willing to recuse himself from something,” he joked.
