It's still too early to say if Amazon's live-action To fall will be useful. But the first trailers at least make one thing clear: the series seems to reflect the games' distinct vibe.
The recently released second trailer largely follows the same beats as the first, following a Vault dweller named Lucy (Ella Purnell) heading into the Wasteland to discover just how dangerous things have become two centuries after the apocalypse . The series looks gritty and violent, as you would expect from a post-apocalyptic series, but also balances that with a zany sense of humor and a playful retrofuturistic style. Concrete example: a robot Mister Orderly who simply wants to harvest Lucy's organs. It's not serious.
Other than that, the trailer is filled with classics To fall details that will make fans of the games feel right at home, from copious Stimpaks to impressive power armor. When The Ink Spots start singing “I Don’t Want to Set the World on Fire,” it’s hard not to think about the end of the world. It also appears that the series will spend a little more time exploring previous times; the trailer is topped off with a sales pitch for safes that wouldn't be out of place in Hello tomorrow!.
To fall is led by Western world co-creator Jonathan Nolan, with Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner serving as showrunners. It also stars Aaron Moten, Walton Goggins and Kyle MacLachlan.
The show begins airing on April 11, a day earlier than expected. And instead of a weekly schedule, all eight episodes will air at once.
