Brit Turner, drummer for southern rock and roll band Blackberry Smoke, has died.
He was 57 years old.
Turner a glioblastoma would have been diagnoseda form of brain cancer, in 2022. Rolling Stone reported that he underwent surgery to remove a tumor in November.
The group posted his death on his Instagram page.
“It is with the deepest sadness that we inform everyone that our brother (Brit Turner) has passed away from this life,” the message read. “If you had the privilege of knowing Brit on any level, you know that he was the most caring, empathetic, driven and engaging person anyone could hope to meet. Brit was Blackberry Smoke's True North, the compass that established the ideology that will continue to guide this group.
“Brit has been battling glioblastoma since her diagnosis in fall 2022 and is fighting every day,” the post continues. “We ask for prayers for his family and the brothers in the group. More information on the terms and conditions will be forthcoming. Thank you to everyone who has supported and been there for Brit and her family throughout this fight.
Fans and friends of the band responded with their prayers and condolences.

Blackberry Smoke was established in 2000, according to Roling Stone. The group “revitalized southern rock by combining a healthy dose of country music with heavy guitar breakdowns,” the site notes. He has released 10 albums, with two – 2015’s “Holding All the Roses” and 2016’s “Like An Arrow” – reaching No. 1 on the country charts.
A testament to Turner's strength, he reportedly continued to tour with the band, missing time for health reasons following the removal of his brain tumor.
