House of the Dragon Season 2 release date is set for June 2024 on HBO, Warner Bros. streaming and gaming boss has confirmed. Discovery, JB Perrette.
The updated release date, which was revealed during an interview at Morgan Stanley's Technology, Media & Telecoms conference, further narrows the window for the series' expected debut, previously announced to be in “early of summer.” The news was first revealed by Variety.
Perrette's confirmation places House of the Dragon season 2 a little closer than Matt Smith's original prediction, it was around August. The second season of the Game of Thrones prequel has been highly anticipated since the end of the first season in 2022.
Whenever it debuts, House of the Dragon season 2 will pick up the story of Fire and Blood, which explores the history of the Taragaryen kings in the years before Game of Thrones. Based on the events of the book it's meant to move the action up a gear with dragon battles, assassins and the introduction of several new characters.
George RR Martin has apparently seen the first two episodes of season 2, which ” he teased by calling it “very dark.” Season 2 will also be shorter than the first, with eight episodes compared to 10 for the first season. It is ultimately expected to span four or more seasons.
“Of course, I'm hardly objective when talking about anything based on my own work… but I have to say that I found both episodes simply brilliant. (And they're not even finished yet)” , wrote Martin. “Dark, mind you. Very dark. They can make you cry. (I didn't cry myself, but a friend of mine did). Powerful, moving, heartbreaking, heartbreaking. Just the kind of thing that I like.”
