CHICAGO — A sold-out show Friday night in Chicago was canceled due to threats of protests.
Matisyahu was ready to bring hisHold the Fire Tour 2024” at the House of Blues in Chicago on Friday, but shortly before 1 p.m. announced on his that the event has been canceled.
“Dear fans, it saddens me to write this to you. Our sold-out show tonight at the House of Blues Chicago has been canceled due to the threat of protests. While the true details surrounding this decision remain opaque and the responsible parties are all pointing fingers at each other regarding this decision; I can assure you that no threats of violence have been received by our security team who are vigilant in knowing what is happening in each city.
Since the venue paid me for the cancellation, I will donate the profits to @bringhomenow to help the families of the hostages and in honor of International Women's Day to recognize women and girls still held captive by Hamas as well as to @unitedhatzalahofisrael, a fully-run emergency medical organization by volunteers from all backgrounds, Jews and Muslims as well.
While my fans and I are deeply hurt by this, please know that we will not be intimidated by these bullies and the pressure they exert. The ramifications of such tactics extend beyond me and the Jewish people. These individuals and the organizations that break under their pressure threaten the foundation of artistic expression, intellectual honesty, and empathy between people with different viewpoints and concerns.
We will continue to do shows. And we will always stand against hatred and march toward the true goal of long-term peace for all.
In response, the United States Palestinian Community Network (USPCN) and the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (CAARPR) issued a statement clarifying that their efforts to plan the protest led to the cancellation.
“When we organize, we win!” the USPCN declared Friday. In its message, the USPCN called Matisyahu a racist and a Zionist.
Matisyahu has made his Hasidic Jewish faith heard throughout his career.
