In his film critic, Variety Owen Gleiberman wrote: “Will the new film replace the original film in everyone's affections? This may depend on your age. (For some, the 2004 version will always be sacred; for others, it's their mother's “Mean Girls.”) I'll just say that after seeing pop singer Reneé Rapp, as the villain daughter Regina (Rapp also played the role on stage), makes her grand entrance in a black vinyl bodysuit, singing “My name is Regina George and I'm a big deal…” as if she were Anita Ekberg crossed with Mata Hari, the scene carries a shock, and you may wonder for a moment how Rachel McAdams, in the original film, had the impact she did. without this song.”
