British-born Millie Bobby Brown is a linguistic chameleon.
The 20-year-old actress raised eyebrows earlier this week after fans noticed she seemed I gave up his British accent for an American while doing the media tour to promote his new film, “Damsel”.
However, when asked about the sudden change in an interview With TikToker Max Balegde on Friday, the “Stranger Things” star explained that she grew up in both countries and “can't help but” change her accent depending on who she's around.
“Let me talk about this real quick,” she said. “I'm an actor. I grew up in the public eye. I grew up in America.
Although Brown grew up in Bournemouth, England, she moved to the United States at the age of 8 to pursue an acting career. Three years later, she got her big break like eleven – an American – in the hit Netflix series.
“I come on set, I’m an actress and I adapt,” she continued. “And so I want to imitate people.”
Brown explained that when she meets Americans like Jimmy Fallon or her fiancé, Jake Bongiovi, she naturally feels the need to “mirror” their accent – and vice versa.
“Now that I’m in England, I want to replicate that!” I don't do this intentionally and I'm sorry if it offends you! she continued.
“But look, I’m doing my best!”
Balegde, who is “from a very small town in the north” of England, tried to comfort the actress by pointing out that he had experienced something similar when he went to university in another part of the country.
“I was suddenly surrounded by people from the South and my mother was like, 'Who do you think you're talking posh about?' and I'm going to show her this clip and say, 'You know what, Joane? I try to do my best!'”

“It almost sounds like she's imitating an American accent throughout this entire interview,” added another.
However, others thought his ability to slip between accents was quite satisfying.
“She can turn her accents on and off, I love it!!” ” exclaimed one fan, while another added: “It's like watching Ross in 'Friends' as he tried to phase out his British accent.
