Netflix lowered the curtain on Michelle Yeoh police drama “The Sun Brothers» after one season.
The action revolving around Taiwanese organized crime and set in the San Gabriel Valley, Southern California, bowed on January 4 on Netflix's global platform. The series was created and executive produced by Brad Falchuk and Byron Wu.
In addition to Academy Award winner Yeoh, “Brothers Sun” also starred Justin Chien, Sam Song Li, Highdee Kuan and Joon Lee. News of the cancellation was first reported by Deadline.
The series lasted eight episodes. Chein plays a Taiwanese gangster who goes to the Los Angeles area to protect his estranged mother after his father is murdered in Taipei. Yeoh, who won the best actress Oscar last year for “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” received strong reviews for her work in the series. Variety Television critic Aramide Tinubu called Yeoh “fierce and imposing” and said the series was “a thrilling and brilliant comedy-drama about family obligations, buried skeletons and the bonds that can never be broken.” Tinubu also observed, “While it gives Yeoh a showcase that she has more than deserved, the series also introduces Chien and Li as two mega talents who will no doubt continue to grace our screens.”
Other executive producers include Mikkal Bondesen and Kevin Tancharoen, who directed the first episode of the series. Additional cast members included Alice Hewkin, Jon Xue Zhang, Jenny Yang and Madison Hu.
