In a first for the Vacaville Museum, the Solano County History Center will host a series of monthly meetings as part of its first-ever book club.
Whether a new goal or an ongoing habit, the museum's inaugural book club offers individuals the opportunity to fulfill their reading aspirations in a community environment.
The first club meeting will be held on January 10 at 5:30 p.m. and will continue every second Wednesday of the month.
“This is a way for the museum to maintain a relationship with the public and show our support,” said executive director Sarah Olsen-Menon. We want to let the community know that we are here and that this is a space for everyone.
Although the book club is open to the public, books selected will be at an adult reading level, so participants should plan for possible adult themes. In an effort to get the most out of the meeting, the museum expressed its hope that participants will attend regularly to foster collaborative discussion.
Before analyzing literary themes and characters, participants will first collaborate on the year's upcoming titles. At the first meeting, participants will have the opportunity to add their own suggestions to a pool from which books will be randomly selected. The only criterion for suggestion is whether the book falls into the History, fiction or non-fiction genre.
To offset the cost of snacks and drinks, the museum suggests a $10 donation for the meetings, but it is not mandatory to participate.
