Amazon to lay off 9,000 more employes

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced in a note to employees on Monday that the company will lay off 9,000 additional workers in the coming weeks.

These layoffs are in addition to the previously announced layoffs, which began in November and continued into January. More than 18,000 employees were affected by this round.

Amazon has decided to lay off additional staff in order to save costs. It considered the economy as well as the “uncertainty that prevails in the foreseeable future,” according to Jassy. The corporation has just completed the second phase of its annual budgeting process, known internally as “OP2.”

“The overarching idea of our yearly planning this year was to be leaner while still investing strongly in the important long-term customer experiences that we believe can truly improve customers’ lives and Amazon as a whole,” Jassy said.

According to Jassy’s memo, the current wave would mostly affect Amazon’s cloud computing, human resources, advertising, and Twitch livestreaming operations.
