According to multiple sources ,Leon Edwards successfully defended his UFC welterweight title against Kamaru Usman in a five-round battle at UFC 286 on March 19, 2023. This was a rematch between the two fighters, with Edwards having previously knocked out Usman with a head kick in their first encounter.
The fight took place at the O2 Arena in London, and Edwards won by majority decision on the judges’ scorecards. Two judges scored the bout 48-46 in favor of Edwards, while one judge scored it a 47-47 draw.Edwards was composed and energetic throughout the fight, leading the dance for most of it.
He outlanded Usman 123-113 in total strikes and defended 11 of Usman’s 15 takedown attempts.
Even when Usman managed to take Edwards down, he failed to keep him down or generate significant offense.
Despite losing a point for a fence grab and landing several unintentional low blows, Edwards managed to edge out Usman on the scorecards .
This victory marks Edwards’ first defense of his welterweight title and extends his undefeated streak to twelve fights.
