Sony Funimation purchased Crunchyroll from WarnerMedia for $1.175 billion in 2020, and they launched their transformation into a unified anime subscription service under the latter's name a year after the deal was announced. By 2022, Crunchyroll has already added more than 50 showss that were either exclusive to Funimation or were not available with the dubs in its library. Now it looks like they're almost done unifying their services: Funimation has revealed that it will shut down its old app and website on April 2.
At Funimation End of services page, he said that most of his content had already been migrated to Crunchyroll. Those who haven't yet left Funimation will be automatically transferred – they just need to use their existing credentials to log in to the Crunchyroll website. Once logged in, they will receive a message that their watchlists and history lists are also being migrated.
Viewers with a Funimation and Crunchyroll account will be asked to merge their data from both services or choose to use their data from one of them. And after April 2, their billing will go through Crunchyroll's and follow its price, which starts at $8 per month. Unfortunately, Funimation customers who own digital copies that complement the DVDs or Blu-rays they purchased will no longer have access to them as Crunchyroll does not support them. “(We) are continually working to improve our content offerings and bring you a great anime streaming experience,” Funimation said. “We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to explore the vast library of anime available on Crunchyroll.”
