Samsung unveils the Galaxy Ring as a way to ‘simplify everyday wellness’

After teasing him (again) yesterdaySamsung has finally Poster the Galaxy Ring in physical form during the Mobile World Conference (MWC 2024) and revealed a few more details. The device is of course focused on health and wellness and will be available in three colors, platinum silver, gold and ceramic black. It is expected to go on sale later this year.

Samsung didn't say much about the Galaxy Ring when it premiered displayed a rendering of the device at Unpacked last month. All we knew at the time was that it would be a wellness-focused wearable, positioned to rival Oura and featuring a suite of previously unknown sensors.

Journalists were not allowed to photograph it today, but some additional images from Samsung show it to be a squat, concave ring about the same size as the Oura, according to a provided image (below). below). The extra girth isn't surprising, given the electronics hidden inside.

Always, The edge noted that it was lighter than expected and would be offered in sizes 5 through 13, marked S through XL on the inside of the strap. Battery size (and therefore time between charges) varies depending on size, ranging from 14.5 mAh to 21.5 mAh. Battery life is unknown, but the Oura can last up to seven days between charges.

According to a blog by Dr. Hon Pak, vice president of Samsung, the ring will track sleep based on heart rate, movement and breathing, then provide users with advice based on that. The company will also glean data from its partner Natural Cycles, which already tracks fertility on the Galaxy Watch, matching a key feature of Oura.

The Galaxy Ring will also feature a new tool called My Vitality Score that measures alertness so users can see if they are at their best. Feedback will be available via “Booster Cards” that will offer scientific advice using sleep and other data collected by the device.

The Galaxy Ring will be part of the Samsung Health ecosystem and will be compatible with the Galaxy Watch. This means that you will be able to use both devices at the same time to track your health and thus obtain better quality data. That said, the advantage of a wearable ring is that it is much less awkward to sleep with.

We'll learn more in the coming months, including the exact sensor suite, pricing, and sale date. The Galaxy Ring will only be compatible with Samsung Galaxy phones, although the company plans to make it work with other Android devices in the future. iOS compatibility, however, is still to be determined, Pak said.
