The recent and planned additions suit the upcoming The Citadel Live concert series, which will bring internationally renowned artists to the stadium – many in the country music sphere, but not limited to that genre.
Southern Entertainment is a full-service events and production company specializing in the planning, marketing and execution of a wide range of concerts, festivals and other live music events. They have produced over 500 events across the United States and have worked with artists ranging from Florida Georgia Line to Calvin Harris and Flo Rida.
In addition to bringing new entertainment to the Peninsula, the partnership will also provide internship, employment and philanthropic opportunities for students, veterans, alumni and community members. Special Operations Eventsa veteran-owned and operated company headquartered in Mount Pleasant that supplies the Citadel concessions, is also part of the partnership undertaking the new concert series.
“Our partnership with The Citadel seamlessly combines Special Ops Events’ expertise with Southern Entertainment’s event production prowess,” Bob Durkin, president of Southern Entertainment, wrote in a statement. “This collaboration presents an exciting opportunity to bring premier entertainment to Charleston, meeting the city’s space needs with the Citadel’s prime location and stunning views of the iconic Arthur Ravenel Bridge Jr.”
Former Citadel associate athletic director Andy Solomon hosted Teen Jams with a local radio station at the stadium in the 1990s and had Widespread Panic and Dave Matthews perform inside the 6,000-seat arena from campus, McAlister Field House. But there were few shows in the stadium itself.
A couple come to mind: a 2012 performance by the Blue Dogs, Piedmont Boys, Eddie Bush, Drivin N Cryin, Homemade Wine, Sourwood and Rehab, and a 2013 benefit concert featuring Gary Sinise and Lt. Dan Band.
