Can you imagine having to mail a $3,499 gadget because you forgot the password you provided to use it? Customers who purchased the Apple Vision Pro This is exactly what they will need to do if they forget their device passcode. According to Bloomberg, the company has told buyers that the only way to reset their codes is to visit an Apple Store or send their mixed reality headset to AppleCare customer support. Apple will then reset their codes so they can use their device again.
As Bloomberg Notes: If a user enters an incorrect code too many times, their device will be disabled and they will have to wait a waiting period to try again. They'll need to ask Apple to reset their passcode if they still can't remember it after this waiting period, and asking the company to do so will erase all content on their headset.
It should be noted that some users of the Apple Discussion Forum they were always locked even though they entered the correct password – it's unclear if this is a bug affecting certain units – so the problem could happen to anyone. Based on other posts, Apple's Genius Bar staff uses an accessory called the Developer Strap that the company sells to developers for $299 to connect the headset to iPads or laptops so they can reset it. In at least one case, Apple Geniuses would have reset failed the user's headset and had to replace it completely.
The process of changing the headset passcode could change again in the future: the recently released Vision Pro, after all, is the first iteration of an entirely new product category. For the sake of those who have already purchased one, we hope it will be introduced via a software update rather than as an enhancement to the next version.
