Since VisionPro went on sale last week, Apple's expensive AR/VR headset was spotted in all kinds of unusual places: from the gym to planes and everywhere in between. However, after an owner has been seen wear it while driving on the highway in a Tesla CybertruckUS Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg issued a warning reminding people to use common sense.
In a post on Alongside a clip from the original video, Buttigieg reiterated that “ALL advanced driver assistance systems available today require the human driver to be in control and fully engaged in the driving task at all times “. Likewise, Apple's headset comes with multiple warnings advising users not to use it when “operating a moving vehicle” or in “any other situation requiring special attention to safety.”

Following Secretary Buttigieg's response, the video creatorDante Lentini, said Gizmodo that the images were a “sketch” done with friends and that the helmet was only worn for 30 to 40 seconds while driving. Additionally, Lentini claims that footage suggesting he was arrested for his prank was staged. But what makes the video even more irresponsible is that even though the Cybertruck comes standard with Tesla's Autopilot system, this feature has not yet been enabled for the first wave of Founder's Edition vehicles. This means that Lentini was driving on the highway while wearing a helmet without the aid of any advanced driver assistance systems.
In some ways, it's a little sad that Buttigieg's warning has to be spoken. However, given the extent of the media hype and pre-orders approach 200,000 unitsIt was probably only a matter of time before someone was caught driving while wearing Apple's expensive headset.
