Samsung is working to update security measures for top-of-the-line smartphones, and the Korean giant is changing the policy for some older models. Owners of Galaxy S20, Note 20, Z Flip and Z Fold 2 line devices only updated quarterly.

According to Samsung, the selected devices were launched from 2019 after updates for less than four years from global release, while some models received new patches within five years. However, the updating practice varies between each device, with monthly, quarterly or semi-annual timelines.

The devices you need to know about current updates

During the new transition, the following models will be defined in monthly updates and tracked for the quarterly refresh:

Galaxy Z Flip 5G and Galaxy Z Fold2;
Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 5G, Galaxy S20+, Galaxy S20+ 5G, Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, Galaxy S20 FE and Galaxy S20 FE 5G;
Galaxy Note20, Galaxy Note20 5G, Galaxy Note20 Ultra and Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G.

This means that we need security updates and there are no updates that make new calls on smartphones, like One UI 6.1. Models continue to run Android 13 and One UI around version 5.1.
