Unsurprisingly, Zuck thinks the Quest 3 is a ‘better product’ than Apple’s Vision Pro

Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg published a review of Apple Vision Pro on Instagram, reminding everyone that the rivalry between the two companies has deepened further with the launch of the latter's mixed reality headset. In the video shot with a Meta Quest 3, Zuckerberg did not mince his words when contrasting the Vision Pro with his company's device. He said he initially expected the Quest to be the best value for most people because it's “seven times cheaper” than the $3,500 Vision Pro. However, after testing his competitor's product, he came to the conclusion that the Quest “is the better product, period.”

He added that Quest is “better for the vast majority of things people use mixed reality for.” Zuckerberg said he thought the Quest was “much more comfortable,” since Meta designed it to be lightweight and portable, so people could use it while traveling or even hanging out with friends and while socializing. He found the Quest's field of view to be wider and its screen brighter than the Vision Pro's, and he also found that Meta's headset displayed sharper visuals when he moved his head while wearing it. Apple's device, he said, exhibited motion blur.

Zuckerberg acknowledged that the Vision Pro has a higher resolution screen, but in the same breath he criticized Apple for the “compromises” it had to make in terms of comfort and ergonomics of the device. Although the Quest's controllers are “a little more precise,” he admits that Apple's eye tracking is “really nice.” Apparently, Meta used Vision Pro's sensors for the Quest Pro but removed them for the Quest 3. The company plans to reuse them in the future. Of course, Zuckerberg took the opportunity to talk about the Quest's larger library and to point out that the Quest, unlike the Vision Pro, has access to YouTube and Xbox apps. Zuckerberg finished his analysis by talking about open and closed models for each generation of computing and how he wants to ensure that for this generation, Meta's technology, as an open model, “wins” as Microsoft's has done this in the past.
